Hey Thermos,

Sorry I'm so late in responding. Your gear looks fine, to start. Obviously your mana situation will improve with gear so don't get discouraged. It's a shame you weren't around in the days of unlimited Disc mana...finishing raid fights with 60% or more, those were the days!

To be honest, your spec needs a lot of work. I'd be glad to go into my reasoning if you'd like, but here's a decent spec to start. You should notice a big improvement. One important thing to mention...as Disc, you should be using Penance almost every time it's available. For that reason, pick up the talent that reduces it's cooldown, as well as the glyph. You can afford to drop the 5 points that you have invested in decreasing the cast time of Greater Heal...you really shouldn't be using it. If you're relying on GH then that is probably why your mana situation is so bad.

Here's the build I recommend. Stick to shield, renew, Prayer of Mending, Flash Heal, and Penance. Prayer of Healing if needed but be careful because it's heavy on mana:

You still have 3 points to put wherever you'd like. Good luck!

Great post! I just hit 80 on Thursday and did my first PoS run on regular with only 1 problem. The first go with Garfrost was challenging! After I got the hang of healing on the run, it was smooth sailing. Then I did it on heroic with an epic fail. The group, who of course were all experts on how a priest should spec, heal and gear, all said it was because I was disc. Just to humor them, I swapped to holy, wipe again. Back to disc. We got through it until the hunter in the group decided MD was just a waste of time and kept pulling off the tank, who was also a new 80. Of course, that too was my fault. Silly me, I forgot to use my cure huntarditis button. I have run that place about 7 times now both heroic and regular. It is still a challenging heal for a new 80, but fun. Maybe today I'll get brave enough to try HoR.

No need to apologize, your comment wasn't snippy.

Not sure if you know this or not...a lot of people don't... there are four pulls in the room with the first boss of AN. Three of the four have a mob in the group called a "Skirmisher". The skirmishers will drop aggro suddenly, enrage, and dart for the furthest player (usually the healer) and become untauntable for something like 10 seconds.

I wrongly blamed the tank (in my head, not out loud) in my group when I died to one of those bad boys before learning about them. My advice is to always be sure to mark them with a skull and ask the group to focus them down. They ARE vulnerable to stuns, so if the party DPS isn't through the roof you can always stun it before/while it drops aggro from the tank.

Of course this is no excuse for the healer in your group to have acted like a sissy. Sometimes a wipe is nobody's fault, and sometimes it's everyone's fault. Yelling at and offending people isn't a great way to make the run more fun or any quicker.

It's still just a video game.

Well then that's alright.

And sorry if my comment seemed snippy, I was in a bad mood because of a bad experience with a priest. I was running heroic AN for the first time (I'm a rogue), and on the first boss the priest healer went down, soon followed by one of the other DPS (mage I think)

He started flipping out, complaining about how unlucky he was to get 3 horrible DPS on the run and how we should all just leave. So I did.

I was thinking about the saying "If the healer dies, it's the tank's fault." But this guy was nonstop complaining for about 5 minutes

Ruined my mood and after jumping into another heroic just to get my Badges of Frost, I stopped playing for the day

Hey Thomas, thanks for the comment. I always suggest kiting him. He's one of the few that I speak up about in heroics.

I use to constantly offer strategies for all bosses in heroics, but after awhile people out-geared heroics so much that they just ignored me and now they do what they want.

Normally I'd be happy to hang in there with a party and work through some wipes. But in this case there are players who are refusing to buff, and who are arguing over who can win a duel. Meanwhile, we're wiping.

That sounds horrible, but there are some things you are leaving out.

Did you tell people some strategies for the bosses? Did you tell them to move and not just sit and "nuke"?

If you did and they ignored you, then I support you dropping them

But if you didn't say anything and just let it continue, then it's just as much your fault as theirs.

You know, the more I play the more I agree with you. Having a newer tank or less experienced tank is a welcomed changed.

I want to clarify that I have no problem healing a new tank....I never have. 23k health is no problem for me, since that was the standard when Wrath was released. My problem is DPS in DPS gear spec'ed as a tank, and queuing as a tank to bypass queue times. The DK was a nice player but she was in attack power trinkets and gems. Even if she was not defense capped but wearing tank gear, I wouldn't have mentioned it. But this was her first tank run and she didn't bother hitting the AH for some of the half-decent crafted plate. It reeked of laziness to me. But again, nice person, not geared to tank, but made for an exciting run...

My experience has been quite different with the random dungeon finder. I don't mind fresh level 80's, people new to a given role, or a group that wants to make a mess of things. I consider these a welcome change from the mindnumbingly boring pull-aoe-pull-aoe-pull-aoe grind that heroics have become. Tank not quite def. capped... That was my alt last week, it happens he needs this to get better gear. Heal his ass off and you'll be fine. Aggro going everywhere, I LOVE IT. A large majority of the tanks have so much raid gear their health doesn't even move and I contemplate switching to shadow.

Now what I don't like, are the arrogant assholes and general douchebags you get stuck with. I was booted from a heroic CoS run for pointing out the rogue (same guild as two of the other members) had been on autofollow the entire run and not contributing. If this was a single person you could use the kick feature however those 3 characters posed a majority that us other two people were stuck with. Blizzard needs to fix this.

I really like your blog, its real and I can relate to your posts. I just switched to disc on my priest/dual spec really but am liking disc a lot. I have a lot of issues with mana conservation as disc, any suggestions? I know my gear is lacking but I'm going to start working on that. My character is Thermos on Terenas.
